Hello My Name Is...
Robin Smith, M.Ed.
My husband and I have three sons, two dogs, two cats, bearded dragons and fish. I have worked in education for 28 years. This is my 16th year teaching on John's Island and proud to be part of such a wonderful culture of learning.
My work history includes elementary and middle school, college and non-profits. Some of my experiences include teaching preschool special education, elementary grades, technology, education research assistant, interventionist and an advocate for individuals with intellectual disabilities.
I received a B.A. in Early Childhood and Elementary Education with related studies in political science from Converse College (1988). My graduate studies included Teaching, Learning and Advocacy with an emphasis on literacy and poverty from the College of Charleston (2012).
I work with students who are enrolled in the AVID program. AVID is a program dedicated to helping students achieve their goals of going to college. Students considered for AVID are bright students who might be under-achieving, under served in the college system or first generation college students.
Additionally, AVID students might be those who benefit from explicit support in organization, note taking, reading and writing strategies in preparation for honors and AP high school classes. 8th grade AVID students are enrolled in honors and high school courses.
If you or your child would like to learn more about the AVID, please contact me, guidance, administration or your child's teacher to hear more about our program.
